Many of these beautiful babies were living their last hours in an overcrowded high kill shelter in Louisiana. The wrath of Hurricane Katrina continues to take it’s toll on the tens of thousands of innocent animals in the state. Many of them have been surrendered due to life changes after the hurricane as well as the thousands of animals still living on the streets with no food or shelter. We just couldn’t leave any of these deserving babies behind and they have now been given a second chance at life filled with love, compassion & proper care.
PRIOR TO TRANSPORT:
- All dogs were quarantined for at least two weeks, fully vaccinated including rabies, heartworm tested, dewormed, spayed and neutered (except puppies under 4 months of age).
- All dogs have been given Heartguard, a heartworm preventative.
- All dogs have been fully health checked and given a health certificate.
- These beautiful dogs were lovingly transported by the angel, Lucy Pribenow of Sunshine Dogstar Rescue Transport (Louisiana).
UPON ARRIVAL:
- All dogs are closely monitored to insure their health & well-being.
- All dogs will have additional deworming prior to adoption.
- Puppy adoptions include a spay/neuter certificate to use at a specified date, and second vaccinations will be done prior to adoption.
- Training advice will be available to all adopters via email for 6 months after adoption.
- Also included in the adoption fee is a certificate for a vet exam with participating veterinarians for the peace of mind of the new owners.
Since the dogs arrived in Vancouver, our certified dog trainer has been working hard to assess each dog’s individual personalities so they can be placed in the right homes.
Adoption fees for all of these dogs will be $395.00 (unless otherwise stated).
We are ever thankful for Lucy’s tireless effort to transport all of these babies to Vancouver. Each and every one of these dogs were loved from the minute they were taken out of the shelters, during their transport, and are already loved by all of us here. From here on in, they will have a wonderful new life. A life they never would have never had without Lucy, Ginger, Sandy, Yuana, Karen & Tricia!
Thank You to all our wonderful volunteers and foster homes, without you we could never continue to rescue!!
Thanks to all of those who continued to support our rescue efforts throughout all the difficulties we had to face.
All food for our rescue dogs has been graciously donated by Royal Canin Canada. Omega3 Oils to help our dogs with their skin & digestive issues kindly donated by Omega Nutrition.

BooBoo is a chihuahua cross, approx 2 years old. She is a sweet, affectionate dog at 10lbs. She may like cats but does fine with other dogs, as long as they know that she is the queen. She loves cuddles and has that worried look on her face thinking that no one will love her. If you think you could be her forever home, bring in an application and visit with her, I guarantee you’ll fall in love with her. UPDATE: BOOBOO HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!

Rico is a Chihuahua Cross, approx 2 years old. UPDATE: RICO HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!! Feisty little guy at 12 lbs. He is scared of getting hurt, but with extra baby talk and cuddles, he is fine. He is good with other dogs, but would prefer to be in a only dog home to get the attention he longs for, he doesn’t feel 100% safe with children.

Frosty (Oreo) – at 10 weeks old, she is a little darling!! We cannot say for sure what kind of mix she is, but she will be small. Found on her own, on the streets of Louisiana, her eyes were barely open. Bottle fed until she was ready for transport, and now she’s ready for her forever home. UPDATE: FROSTY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!
We are now accepting adoption applications – there are 35 dogs looking for their forever families. Please remember that many of the dogs from this transport are in foster care, not all are available for viewing at The Green Room.
If you are interested in giving one of these dogs a loving home, an adoption application must be filled out and a homecheck will be done before being approved. Please follow this link:
